GOOD responsive design should look optimal in each use case, desktop, phone, and tablet. It does not have to look bad-but-identical in each case. Honestly it defeats the point. The responsive part means the site shifts around to look IDEAL in each use case, not AVERAGE in all cases.
You make a good point :)

One thing I'm sure they've learned from this slightly mangled launch: QA, QA, QA!

also the design of the new device and the max for live devices are fantastic.

everything out side of live though is a disaster.

I guess the designer is too young to know about all the legacies of the domain she's designing in
Macbook Pro (2.5 Dual, 4gb) / 30" Cinema Display (I don't give a fuck about no multi-monitor support)

Let em experiment, there's plenty of other things to obsess over, particularly ones that are more enjoyable and significant.

Funny jokes though :P

While I've been reading this thread, it is so bright that my eyes are tearing up.

Really disappointed with what I'm seeing here. Ableton have taken a turn for the worst. Let's hope they can revert back to the website design & logo that I know and love... Fingers crossed the software isn't pursuing such a pathetic change.

New website look and feel, color scheme, fonts and usability are a complete disaster. As was their upgrade discount/pricing launch. At least they still make good software!

I vote to make this thread a sticky as an example to all web designers how things should (and should not) be done. The way to success is really, really simple - just read and learn the following by heart:

condra's post:
viewtopic.php?p=1445511#p1445511

googoo's post:
viewtopic.php?p=1445580#p1445580

And follow it!

12 pages of people giving out about the look of the site and forum, and 4 pages of people trying to override the CSS... and counting.
This is clearly something people care about.

I hope they fix it. It's only a couple of lines of CSS. I'd do it myself if they let me.

It's one thing to discuss these problems in what is now a hidden forum, but do what I did. Take the complaints to their Facebook page and unlike them. They'll hopefully get the message then.

It's probably worth pointing out that it's one of those sites that is full of markup errors, yet claims to be HTML5 . This is likely why a lot of people are seeing browser crashes, and/or differing layouts as their browser tries to make sense of what the developer has done.

ableton.com/en/push/

Validation Output: 40 Errors

Result: 40 Errors, 5 warning(s)

ableton.com/en/shop/
Validation Output: 35 Errors
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1 ... %2Fshop%2F

etc.

Ableton 9 seems to be a big step forward but the new website is a huge step backwards, completely wrong. The old website was so simple and good, simplicity is the word, easy to use, comfortable to your eyes. (please Ableton ask Apple what simplicity means in design)

Ableton is not an internet company and they should not try to have a 'funky' website, They develop an amazing software and that's where their focus should be, Ableton you don't need to have a great designed website, your website is used as a support to your users, as a platform, complimentary to your amazing software. I loved the simplicity of old website, easy to find the information you were looking for, like Ableton (software), the website must reflect the software concept, easy to use, easy to achieve whatever you want to do. The new website does not do that, it actually put's me away.

Please Ableton go back to your simplicity in terms of website, make it simple and pleasant again. You need a functional website rather than trying to have a cutting edge design. You can still keep this 'modern' website for products if you like but for your users, please save us.
