No, freeze->flatten is different from Bounce in Place.

"bounce in place" means you select something or solo a track,
and whatever you hear is rendered as audio onto a track in the song.

"Freeze" is done to an entire track to save processor usage.

I think the most common use case for me for such a feature would be a track that contains a compressor linked to a side-chain.
At the moment you cannot flatten such a track as it has a "link to another track".

Now logically, I understand that this warning is intended to stop people from complaining that when they change a pattern in the track that the side-chain is derived from, that the flattened track won't update in unison. But honestly, I just don't care. If I make the decision to flatten something, I understand what that implies. It "burns in" the changes, and I'm fine with that.

So no, currently flatten doesn't cut the mustard. It should simply do just that, flatten the track, including ALL input connections, as they are at the time of the flatten. THEN it would be useful.

Also, why can't I flatten a single channel of a drum-rack? I understand the complication that since Live racks are so flexible, that the drum rack might be able to play more than one note, and things could get more complex, but, typically, when I have a drum rack, each track is a single note for a drum sample, with some additional processing. It would be SO useful to be able to flatten each drum hit individually (and automatically) to regain some processing power.

I feel bounce in place/flatten has a LOT more power behind it than is currently implemented.

Any full implementation should also have the option to ignore or burn in send/receive tracks, especially such as reverb.
