USB mic recording creating an unwanted gating effect ?

i tried to record some vocals with a usb mic, had to change my audio settings so it would work
but for some reason the vocal comes out stuttered, when there is silence you can see the channel thats ready to record
showing input levels?? cant anyone help? ive switched from my usb soundcard focusrite to MME audio otherwise i can
seem to get input from the mic

I don't know if this would be of much help but maybe you can explore the audio properties of it in Windows.

Right click your speaker icon in Windows and select Recording Devices. Choose your mic and check the settings er properties er whatever. Sometimes there is a tab that lets you choose some basic sound processing settings.

no luck, its giving me loads of delay now this used to work with my old sound card, but cant get it to work at all now?
i have a usb saffire card now, the recording it coming in, but its still chopping up the audio like a gate ?
