Yes, but unfortunately the timing of parameter control (API) across different tracks (threads) is not 100% accurate.

On a fast computer you can reduce the latency to less than 1 ms, eg. 64/96=0.66 ms.

Yes however when setting up track macros, it is very convenient and fast to have them be the first device in your track since the blue hand always selects the first device in a track when you select a track. So for control surfaces, it's best to have your main controls on the first device for quick access.

Has the MIDI "delay" that occurs when using a MIDI channel with monitoring set to IN or AUTO been fixed?
that's a different issue and not a bug.

set midi in to OFF when using the delay compensation. see the Driver Error Compensation lesson. it's not in the manual.

connect an output to an input, play it out, record the input (careful about feedback), measure the delay using the timeline at the bottom of Arrange View, enter the delay in the preferences, try again until you get it tight.
Sure, if I was referring to using MIDI with hardware, that would work. And I've done it before.

But there is a tangible delay when playing VSTs live with a keyboard, when a MIDI channel is set to IN or AUTO monitoring. Every other DAW I have used does not have this problem.

No I do not mean audio interface latency, I'm using an RME Multiface II at 64 samples in Live, Reaper and Logic. Live adds further delay to the MIDI that I play in (when MIDI channel monitoring is not OFF), Reaper and Logic do not.

I've noticed a similar effect when playing instrument plugins live. I generally resort to turning off PDC altogether which seems to fix it. It's seems Live is applying PDC to the track even when playing live.

it is applying PDC. you can turn that off with 'reduced latency while monitoring'.

So that's what "reduced latency while monitoring" does!

Crum and Theo, thank you! I will give this a try. Though I doubt it'll help much to keep my ESX in sync... fickle thing.

Especially after Sonar X2, Cubase SX 7 release and their price tags.
The features included will not be available in Live till version 15...
