Something inherent in the album format that lightning rarely strikes an artist twice.

Thank god for the iTunes shuffle revolution. Most albums suck bums. Better of without them. Self indulgent tosh usually.

Although perfectly acceptable responses, I'm somewhat surprised by a lot of commercially successful artists being mentioned, especially on a DAW forum where people like to drop obscure artist names all over the place and spit on commercial success.

But what came to my mind was artists that appeared out of nowhere with an epic album, maybe didn't get commercially successful, and dropped off the planet. Maybe did a few remixes or something like that, but that's it. Where did all that talent go? All spent on one album? Having said that...

Chris Zippel - Genuine Horizon (2007)

Trifonic - Emergence (2008)

I listed the years because I just checked iTunes and both have put out something recently (yay), but between then and now...pretty much silent. I gave up on checking years ago.

The Golden Age of Wireless by Thomas Dolby

A pretty good excuse for being a synth slut.

Come on people, try a bit harder. Artists with a first amazing album, followed by successful ones you didn't like as much definitely do not count. Otherwise we'll be listing just about everyone.

Fc Kahuna - Machine says yes.

It's a little hit and miss, but the good tracks are fucking excellent.

Second album please. I'm still fucking waiting.

I know Rhythm & Stealth is meant to be the cool one but it's very samey production wise. Hard work to sit through.

Every track on Leftism is in a different style. The Sgt. Pepper of dance.

Best album of the 90s!

Do 'one-album-wonders' count?

If so then The La's by The La's

I wholeheartedly disagree, primarily because of their second, live, & rehearsal albums.

Suicide is greatness.

White Noise - an electric storm

David Vorhaus - production co-ordinator
Delia Derbyshire, Brian Hodgson - electronic sound realisation
Paul Lytton - percussion
John Whitman, Annie Bird, Val Shaw - Vocals

David Vorhaus did more under the name, but later efforts lacked the twanging rulers and mind bending backwards genius.
