because OSX is bloated through itoyish updates unlike Windows is slimmed down through vista -> 7 -> 8.

Vista was buggy as hell at the beginning, especially before the first service pack, that's why it got so much hate.

Once some time passed and things got patched up it ended up running pretty well for most.

Windows is getting better while Apple is in a trend to make OSX more like iOS. The most annoying thing is that they dont care about messing up third party applications every update.

I'm certainly not going to join the debate (I'm happy with OSX lion on my MBP, and WIn7 on my desktop)...

But what I want to know is this:

Why do people update their OS whenever Microsoft or Apple release one? If your music computer works with your current OS, DO NOT CHANGE it until your music software requires it, or until such time that you know all of your software is going to be compatible with the new version of the OS in question.

With Windows, compatibility between versions is almost never a problem.

I think people update for the latest features, and sometimes more efficient use of their OS and hardware.

Plus, if you should happen to get a new gizmo, chances are the latest driver support will be for the newer OSs.

ctrl + shift + left/right = select between transients

First of all is important to take in to account the difference in updates between the two, Apple has 10.X upgrades that almost anual and almost always mess up with something. They have few big updates (versions 9 to X) and some minor updates.

Windows has less big updates, they change version every 4 years I think (Vista>7>8 ) but have a big bunch of updates in the middle, ranging from a service pack to minor bugs.

Windows has a bigger commitment to make legacy products usable wile Apple is must than happy to tell their costumes: you have to buy something new, that's why they dont care to mess up with compatibility.

One ridiculous thing about windows is they still don't support hot-plugging. WTF

ASIO is not built in afaik, so i would think that would be ASIO4All and/or a lack of (Win 8 ) ASIO driver by specific interface manufacturers.
