Really, this absolutely crucial to the character of the sound.

yes, that's what I do with almost every stab I try to make... But about this particular one, the sound design seems to be the biggest problem =)

I think you need to do an A B comparison. Get a track with the stab in. Isolate an instance and either make a loop of it in the arrange window or put it into a sampler. Make a two bar loop of a regular quarter note pulse. Make your best attempt at the. Srtab sound, make the same two bar loop. Make a track that alternates between these two loops a couple of times. Post it to soundcloud. I'll listen, maybe others will.

Where's the AB track with a Juno 106 alternating with a techno stab you like the sound of.

A sound like this shouldn't be too challenging on a 106 TechnoLover. They're just about the simplest polysynth ever made. Do you think that these sounds were made in the 80s and 90s on some modular beast or something?

If you are struggling, it's impossible for us to know how to help without an audible example.

You never know, it may be that you are too much of a perfectionist. Because I thought we nailed that blip sound for you in about half an hour and you now say you had to spend days more on it to get it right for your ears. (be interested to know how you inproved it, incidentally... put a bit back into the learning pool!)

Check Demo-Version of u-he ACE, there's a preset (One of the First presets in the List - Easy to find) quite similar to the Sound your'e looking for. Look at the Parameters and try to recreate on different Plugins... Best Way to learn! And on the Way you will create Lot of interesting Sounds of your own, so you will find unique Sounds by Yourself!

Good luck!
