Most Comfortable Headphones

Post by bobland » Fri Dec 21, 2012 11:10 pm

I've got a pair of ATH M50s. They sound great but after a while they make my lobes hurt. I searched this forum and didn't find all that much on ear comfort. If anything, a lot of raves for the M50s. So, any recommendations for a pair that will hold me thru an 8 hour editing session?

Thanks,
bobland

HD-25II's. With the velour earcups and the split headband, I can wear them for hours and not even tell.

Beyer Dynamic DT 770 are my comfy headphones.

i have ATH M50 too. i like the sound just a little better on them, but the comfort of the Beyer Ds is undeniable.

I was recommended a pair of obscure headphones by a pro artistewho had nothing but praise for these beauties.

Sennheiser HD 265

I can wear these things for hours and not even feel like I have headphones on.

I have AKG 702 and they dig into your head. The sound is incredibly detailed though.

+1 for the Beyer Dynamic DT 770. Have also HD25 and HD600, and the DT 770 are easily the most comfortable (though prefer the sound of the HD600s...)

Do you wear glasses when listening?

Beyerdynamic DT100s.

DT100 looks cool, but sounds crap. DT150 has the same look, but sounds as good as DT770 if not better...
My DT770 collects dust since DT150 moved in.
HD25-II kills my ears within an hour. Really uncomfortable phones...
AKG240 - flat sound, boring, light and comfortable...
HD380 - very underrated... Sounds nice and very comfortable... Cheap as happy meal.
DT250 - good phones, but not as good as DT150 or DT770... A bit uncomfortable after a couple of hours...
Those I owe... Tried HD650 - don't get the hype of open cans, though thinking of getting DT880... According to SOS - the best phones for mixing... Just curious...

AKG 702 - no head digging on my head. Feel good, love the sound.

That's almost true. AFAIK the DT100 are rather for speech/vocal correction, and in that they're said to be great. But for music production they're just not enough having no lowest freqs at all. DT150 are perfect in this field, however both models (and as I guess all Beyedynamics) need to be used carefully with no too much loudness, as they are very delicate for volume - and having $150 headphones that shortly after buying start to bass-fart is no the best idea.
Still - couldn't any better than DT150: hipster design, great sound, wide spectrum, high fidelity, great comfort in use, construction simplicity, and decent price comparing to quality.
My best choice in headphones so far.

Maybe I have small ears, but I don't have this problem with ATH-M50s o.O

I was going to say newer ones have softer cups, but... I don't think that's the problem here. I wear glasses, too.

Blessed, I guess  Wish I could be of more help.

I don't wear glasses, nor do I have overly large ears. Mostly, my use is for composition and editing. For mixing, I'll use my JBLs. I appreciate all the opinions as I don't have anywhere to try out phones.
