Automating Sends from audio clips in arrange view

Hi, say i have an audio clip in arrangement view and I want to "send" certain parts of that to a reverb on a return track, is that possible?

I tried it but didnt seem to work - I selected the relevant drop down in the clip and brought the automation line all the way to the bottom - then for the parts i wanted to send i set them to 100% - but nothing went to the reverb, user error??

is the send all the way up on the track (clip automation are relative)
