All*Chords for the Launchpad - Play scales & chords easily

Post by rishi » Sat Feb 02, 2013 5:36 am

In my eternal quest to improve the music I make, I developed a little tool for my Launchpad.... I call it All*Chords.

All*Chords is a music making tool for non-keyboard players (like me). It gives you the ability to play chords and scales on your Launchpad without having to remember complicated fingering.

You can play scales with the same pads regardless of which root note or scale type you have set.  The scales & chromatic sub-modes work similar to the way the Ableton Push device works.

In addition, All*Chords lets you play chords with one finger.  You can play scale chords & chords of 10 types with any root note.  The Launchpad tells you what chord type you are playing. You can play chord inversions and there are pads that will play the notes comprising the last played chord. You can even save chords to the chord memory for easy playback.

There's also a basic drum & device page for controlling drum racks and effects in Ableton.

You can use AllChords with your iPhone / iPad and a regular midi keyboard too, using TouchOSC and the included template.

Actually been using the main page for about a year now, but added the Push style sub-modes in recently after seeing those videos.

Well, I don't have a Mac, and I don't own a controller of any kind. I'm a 'traditional' musician, but I think that what you did is pretty awesome. Great work dude.

Seems oddly similar to nativekontrol's LPC script, but re-ordered.

Thanks for the feedback SpeedKing. It was 'traditional musicians' who inspired me to do this, so that us electronic musicians could make better music.

It's a big task to learn how to use a pro DAW, become and audio engineer, understand synthesis and drum programming, master mixdown and mastering as well as learn music theory and develop competant keyboard skills but that's what's required for the one man band electronic musician. So i figure most of us regular electronic producers on the sub-genius level could use a few shortcuts / helping hands along the way.
