Hey. Would love it if someone could humor me. I could wait til I get home and just read what Ableton has to say about it in the "What's New" tab in the Beta, buuuut... I'm at work.

SO!!!

What's up with the Glue?

What's up with Glue vs Compressor?

It's great, is all you need to know.

I have found myself using it almost exclusively since I've been on the 9 Beta.

Particularly fond of it for drums and vocals.

The Compressor is still there, changed a bit. The Glue Compressor is very similar to Cytomic's The Glue. My tutorial for Live 9 will include a statement from the designer, explaining the differences and possible future changes.

Very similar = identical to The Glue.

Andy's mentioned on Gearslutz that the two will null.

I've read his statement on Gearslutz, but I also mailed him and got some more info and we put a little statement together. It's not identical. It's close.

Ahh that will be interesting then. People are quite convinced that the two null because of that post, your article should cause quite a shitstorm actually!

I dunno. Shitstorm would be good, yeah. Unfortunately Gearslutz are very strict about posting links to other websites, in case I poach readers for a few minutes who might have spent money on their website in the meantime. Still, business is business, fuck the spread of information.

Actually I thought Andy did mention a difference on there, maybe not.

"The "Glue Compressor" device is identical to the plugin version of The Glue and will null perfectly with it."

^ Written by Andy... which is why I used the word identical initially :)

Oh well, like I say the differences aren't huge. The main one is the oversampling rate.

I didn't realize he did the algorithm for EQ8. No wonder it sounds so good :D

Could someone perhaps describe, in some detail, WHY the Glue is great? LIke, what are you hearing, what results are you getting with it, that you CAN'T get with the native Ableton compressor?

I'm not doubting, I'd just like to know.....

And please refrain from answers such as, "it sounds great" and "oh it's just better for bus comp than ableton's" because those, while common responses, don't actually tell me ANYTHING.....?

so, honestly, what makes this compressor better than any other compressor? what does it DO??

thanks!
