LITTLE AUDIO SLIPS - need solution by tomorrow night.

15" powerbook g4 running os x 10.3.9

soundcard - focsrite saffire,
controllers -m-audio 02, and evolution uc16 plugged into soundcard's MIDI port

version of live - 4.14

buffer size - 1024

using 10 channels audio and 3 stereo channels rewire

reason 3.0 running 3 combinators each containing a synth, a scream 4, and a matrix pattern sequencer

average cpu reads 45 to 50 percent

OK, every now and again, and i've been up and down with the buffer size , its the same story - i get a little glitch or hiccup in the music: fine for at home but seless for onstage. advice on how to get rid of the problem please?

it sort of happens when i move a rewired synth parameter on the uc16 while the delay in ableton live is activated.

Could it be that my mac needs a clean or something? any good software to do this?

any help would be appreciated. thx in advance

my experience is that hiccups - such as what you are describing - occur when my CPU is choking - and almost always has something to do with a softsynth. I don't think you mentioned your processor speed, but 10 audio + 3 combinators giving a powerbook some trouble doesn't surprise me much at all...

I'm not sure you can take the 40-50% CPU too literally since you are running Reason as well...

If you need all of your Reason tracks to be dynamic (you don't want to render them as audio) , I would see what you can do to reduce CPU load within Live- try freezing some tracks, or switch to more lightweight plugins.

yep it sounds like a CPU performance problem. Can't you borrow a powerbook to someone to perform ? like using two of them synced or a stronger one...

So how did it go in the end, labrat ? I'm asking cause I remember you wanted first to use Live5 for your gig. Did you finally stick to Live4 ?

well people, i'm back.

bloody good festival

yes, i'm a chicken, i stayed with live 4

but the problems i addressed above, I think it happened once in the space of 2 hours, didn't look like anybody noticed

but looks like live5 is here now so i'm gonna put it on tomorrow (at last, the beatlooper!!!!!!)

and why do i get the funny feeling that reason is going to get replaced by an access virus c tabletop synth?????

ok, i saw someone using one and it sounded 1million times fatter than the subtractor synth.

anyway, i'm sure i'll find something else wrong before amsterdam so i'll be back asking for help pretty soon iguess

thanks for confirming the cpu things though, i just needed a second opinion

last thing - would the new carillon audio d900 laptop be able to handle my current setup? mind you there's something about this mac......i couldn't get rid of that and go back to windows now, i just couldn't........

Almost certainly. I use a 1ghz powerbook...I play in a duo with a fella who uses a souped-up windows machine. during our sets I run 30-40% CPU. He is usually running at about 8%.
