Boards of Canada Tape Recorder in Ableton!

Post by milfhuntr » Sun Feb 10, 2013 6:44 am

Boards of Canada stated that part of their sound was an old Grundig reel to reel. Here is a tutorial showing how to make one in Ableton!

You can create pretty much the same effect with just a decent tape delay, and not have to resample into Sampler.

That Reaktor plugin has some weird phasing issues with the bass/drum parts.

True, sometimes you have to fiddle a lot to find a good setting. There is also a mono version of this device...

and these guys are also worth testing...:

Thats all dandy, but there is something special in trying to do it all with Live plugs! With Live 9 one can try to use the lfo plug to slightly randomize the tube saturator and eq plugs. I think I know what to play with in my wecation next week. ;)

Hehe. Well personally I wasnt thinking to much about that, but rather that it could be fun to try to emulate a tape recorder for various kinds of sound design.
