Producing equipment.

Post by benwilliams » Mon Feb 25, 2013 6:56 am

Hey guys so i am new to all this. I just bought ableton live 8, NI massive, novation launchpad, and a focusrite saffire pro 24. I will be using my macbook pro. I want to be making all kinds of EDM. Mostly Trap, Progressive House, dubstep, and some kind of electric music (like purity ring). Really anything people can womp to. I have about $600 now for any other equipment. I want something/stuff that will help A LOT with producing. but i really wanna RUN THE TRAP.
Thanks, Ben

Or get hi-end ultrasone studio headphones. Better choice than monitors in a non-treated room.

I assume you have a sub already, and plenty of tracks to A/B compare. Sounds like those will be the most crucial elements.

Agreed, sounds like you've got more than enough sound/MIDI stuff but unless you haven't mentioned it you'll want some decent speakers.

I wrote an article about the normal (logical) progression of purchasing equipment for electronic music artists:

What Equipment Do I Need to Make Music in Live?

Granted, everyone makes music differently, so obviously get what makes sense for you!

headphones are an option if your confortable using them, for many their produce ear fatigue easily.

you already have everything you need to get started...you can't buy your way to understanding, or productivity though...

^ yeah, +1 for monitors and then get to work. you don't need a lot of gear... you need a lot of practice.
