What's new in Max for Live in Live 9?

Post by synnack » Mon Mar 11, 2013 11:54 am

Thought I'd aggregate from a few different sources and try to get a full list of what's new with Max for Live in Live 9. Anything I'm missing?

Nice list.

One thing: Many of the devices listed as new have been around since Live 8 (certainly Instant Haus and Buffer Shuffler). The new thing is that they are now bundled in a single 'essentials' pack.

Some of the content in the pack is truly new though (like the convolution reverb). It would be interesting to see what exactly is truly new and what is just "newly bundled".

Similarly, Ableton stated during the Beta that the 'essentials' Pack (named 'Core' back then) was not official Ableton content, just a bundle of stuff they made to get people started. I have no idea what that means.

True. New charcoal grey and cyan look and new "Essentials" pack is likely all that's new about those. The "not official content" and change from -Core to -Essentials primarily is to represent that Ableton employees didn't make all those devices. Many of them are 3rd party developers they teamed with to add cool stuff to the Library. The Convolution Reverb is an example of this. It was a collaboration between Ableton and Alex Harker. So they are not "supported" in the same way as an all-ableton product would be since they are partly community created. They do try to fix bugs or have them fixed in those devices but at the end of the day, they aren't all 100% Ableton.
