It's hard to say David, what are you using with Ableton? Any third party VSTs? Any audio hardware? What version? What happens when it crashes? Is it a 100% legit version?

Personally I only use the Ableton plugins and it's been 100% stable for 2 years...I have only had crashes when using VSTs like NI Massive.

Let us know a few more details, might be able to help you out!

Cheers

Hi Bud :)

This is a legit version 9.0.1 of the Suite and 32 bit, running on Windows 7 operating system,Dell XPS studio with 6 core Phenom processor 2.,4Ghz,4Gb ram and 1Tb hardrive

Using a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 interface,no monitors only headphones

I'm not using third party plug ins, only stock sounds, and Ableton live packs.

My first install,I could only arm one audio track at a time even when I hit the cntrl key,I could only arm on at a time

Midi tracks were fine,no problems

I done a monthly defrag of my drive ( as routine) and a fresh install, now I can multi arm audio tracks again
The software has frozen on me a few times, unable to play anything etc

Been in touch with support ( not very helpful to be honest) only suggesting I hold cntrl key down
Sent of several crash reports and status reports
Dell Optilplex 9010,Windows Pro 10 10 64 bit .16GB ram, Intel i5 3570 chip,@ 3'40GHz 4 cores
1TB SSD main drive, external drive 6TB SSD for various Kontakt libraries

Maybe you could paste your log here, I believe it should be in

C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Ableton\Live 9.0.1\Preferences\log.txt

If it were myself, I'd probably go through the following

Temporarily disable any AV and test
Remove Focusrite, test with onboard sound card, if this works OK then update Focusrite firmware/driver.
Update Dell BIOS, drivers for GPU, chipset, etc. Note that Dell doesn't put latest versions on their site.
Disable any power management stuff in BIOS (AMD Cool 'n Quiet causes weird issues!)

Hi Bud
Im not confident to mess around with my Dell, besides that its still under warranty.
But having carried out a defrag ,that has worked,Ableton live now stable
My Focusrite has the latest drivers too

Thanks for you help

how much drive space do you have left? conventional thinking around here is that you need at least 10% free. does the hard drive overload indicator in Live ever light up?

David, I have the a Scarlett 8i6 and am running it with 9.01 32bit also!

My setup is working well, but I have had the occassional crash. I found that my crashes in v8 were mainly caused by a plugin called Sampletank.

Do you ever see the small "D" box in the upper right turn orange?
