I'm not sure about other K8U users, but I was emailed earlier this week with download links for the standalone versions of the Solid Mix Series, as a free upgrade.

Also Driver was originally available as a free download.

I bought Komplete 8 during the promo and upgraded to 9. No regrets. Monark sounds great but it is a bit of a cpu hog. It took maschine down in about 4 instances but it should run better in Live I imagine but I haven't tried it in Live yet. Battery 4 is great and has a ton of great new sounds. I am overall very happy with my upgrade. I plan to upgrade to ultimate during the summer promo.

They state 33 instruments....I only see 3 additions + maybe some FX stuff (Grand, Monark, Battery 4). So I am not sure. I would need to see a comparison between K8 and K9 (regular, not the one with external drive).
What's new in Komplete 9 that was not in Komplete 8:
Monark
Battery 4
The Giant
Solid EQ
Solid Bus Comp
Solid Dynamics
Session Strings

The Giant and Solid Mix are alone over the $149 update price.

Things that are in K9U that weren't in K8U:
Battery 4
Monark
Skanner XT
Driver
RC24
RC48
Action Strings
Session Horns
Vintage Drummer
Evolve
Damage
Rickenbacker Bass
The Giant
standalone Solid Mix series - in K8U they were only loadable within GR5
I just looked and Damage and Evolve aren't shown. Those are Heavyocity products anyways and I have those + EM 1 & 2 by Heavocity. So I still am not sure if it's worth it. Battery 4's interface was finally updated and looks very nice. Monark and The Giant (trying to remember if it was in K8/K8U). Session Strings is shown but not Action Strings. so I'd like to see this page which shows those 4 additional 3 items (action/damage/evolve) listed. I can't find it on their site and looking at diff between 8 and 9 does not list them from what I can see: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/pr ... omplete-9/

Damage and Evolve look to be in the Ulitmate package which is a lot more coin and those two alone are like $4-5xx+ unless you catch Heavocity's sales, which I did over the past 6+ months. That's also where the Rickenbacher bass is.

I'm no kidding I've got folders in almost every part of OSX from some developers grand idea as to where things go.., no order to it at all! :x

It totally negates Apple’s elegant simplicity ethos. If you want to get rid of a program you just toss the program or the program folder in the trash and done. We’d laugh at PC users and their uninstall program. Thanks for fucking that up plug-in developers! :x

I've started skipping a release at Komplete 8. Went from K 7 to K 9. Its not so much the cost I just can't be bothered learning too much new stuff constantly.

You really have to pay attention to folder locations when installing any software.

Really depends on the program. Have you tried apps like Appzapper or Appdelete that do the work of finding associated files for you when deleting apps?

It's better to just know for sure, and really there are only so many places in OSX, but here's a quick example or two.

GURU- stores samples/patches in GURU Data in the top level of the root Library, NI in K5 and K6 store samples and patches in different locations ~/library/application support/native instruments, and in ~/Users/Shared.
Then with presets it's even more random. They can be in Library/Application Support, User/Library/Audio/Presets or ~/Library/Audio/Presets, or User/Documents or some even instal a folder inside your Applications folder with their app and presets etc. in it.

I am going to wait as well. I have K8 crossgrade with Maschine. I agree with the others saying, K7 or below is a good upgrade.

That's a good plan. I'm loath to install all the NI stuff from DVD's but at $149 it's worth it.
It's a mixed bag though for me, I recently picked up MachFive 3 and it's way more fun to make your own patches in than Kontakt so I really have little need for the new version.
Same Applies with Guitar Rig, I recently bought a copy of IK Amplitube Metal and it's much better at heavier guitar tones than GR, hopegfully GR5 improves that because it
integrates with NI's Rig Kontrol hardware nicely for live use.

There's probably some good stuff in the extra GB's of sample content, and the included organs are nice, I like organs.

What´s the additional disk space you need for an upgrade of K7 to K9?

I`m running out of space with all with ableton´s Live8/9 double library idea..

You can probably piece it together from some other posts, but the complete list of stuff that's new or significantly updated between Komplete 7 and Komplete 9 (not counting Ultimate) is:

Battery 4
Guitar Rig 5 Pro
Kontakt 5
Monark
Retro Machines MK2
Session Strings
Skanner XT
Solid Bus Comp
Solid Dynamics
Solid EQ
Studio Drummer
The Giant
Transient Master
West Africa

EDIT: Also, Komplete 7's "Acoustic Refractions" Kore sound pack was discontinued before Komplete 8. That's the only thing in K7 you can't get in K8 or K9.
