PSP MasterComp $49 - only until April 2nd 2013

Post by The Northern Contingent » Sun Mar 31, 2013 4:19 pm

Shit. After upgrading to Ableton 9 my bank account is totally cleared and then this deal comes along. Has anyone here got this? How does it compare to Ableton's compressors (especially now the Glue is included).

At $49 its very tempting...

I like their compressors myself, own Busspressor and Vintage Warmer.
I grabbed the demo a while ago and it ran out before I had a chance to really use it. That said it's the compressor recommended by Bob Katz in his Mastering Audio book.
At $50 you can do no wrong, and I'm glad I held off on buying it until now! 8) Besides the eventual Glue in Live 9, I think it's good to have a few mastering style compressors to choose from, you notice that they all have strengths and weaknesses.

Funny, because I just received advice on a mix in regards to adding more compression, so this $50 is going to be well spent!

That's interesting - I've got Bob Katz's book and haven't had chance to look at it yet. I didn't realise he recommended it there. I think I might take another look...

This kind of attitude is the reason your account is completely empty. You just bought an update for Live which included a kick ass bus compressor. Just because something is on sale doesn't mean you have to get it. There'll always be sales on awesome deals.

You know what's even better than saving 50% on some plug-in you don't actually need?

Saving 100% by not buying it.

Saving 80% like you are with this sale. :|

Plus, compressors IMO are all very unique. It's true that spending money you don't have is not a good idea, but thinking that you have a compression plug in so you're covered for compression is a half truth.

$41 is a night of drinking, not a real expense.

No Problem, this is a once in a couple years type sale.
Funny how this works, other forums are getting excited, but if it doesn't have a modern GUI people here are all Meh! :x

Well - that's me told off. As it happens I didn't go for it in the end - I don't really need it so it would have been wasted money. I will now go and think carefully about my attitude.

Thanks for posting this though. I jumped at it, and I have to say, while both MasterComp and the Glue Compressor are buss compressors, they get very different results. I've been using Cytomic's Glue VST for ages and love it, but MasterComp blows it out of the water for some things. Horses for courses. I wouldn't have bought it at regular price (because obv I already have a buss compressor), but at $49 I'm happy to have it.

My point exactly! I have Fab Filters Pro C as well as some Nomad 'vintage' style compressors beyond Ableton's.
This one exists in it's own category. Couldn't justify it myself at $249, but at $40 it's not even a question.
