Theory: New official Ableton controller

Post by Destro » Mon Apr 08, 2013 2:17 am

Ableton Pull.

With faders galore (hence, Pull).

It'll be smaller than the Push and it's meant to complement, not replace, the Push.

Think about it: Push's lack of faders is a glaring omission, especially for those who intend to use it in a live setting.

So rather than, ahem, push people to seek out other midi controllers to fill this void (like the Korg nanoKONTROL or the Novation Zero SL), why not make an official fader-centric controller that doesn't duplicate Push's functionalities?

After selling Pull by the bucketloads, Ableton will release Ableton Touch. An iOS app, naturally.

Then comes the Tap, the Nudge, the Pat, the Throw, the Spin and last but not least, Ableton Hug, the world's first hug-based midi controller.

Heh! Well, I would love a slim version of the APC40, with just the fades section and the 8 macros, because those two sections are the only parts of it I use. The rest is dead meat filling up my precious table space to be honest.

I'd like to pre-order a Hug. But I don't want to wait 12-16 weeks.

Agree! It was super useful on my novation nocturn. Hated the fact that automap had to run every time ableton did, though.

ive been saying this for years. Give me a bank of 12 nice faders, sort of a modern midi-controller version of the vestax faderboard. Absolutely under-represented market, imo.

I wish they'd sell a unit based on just the Device control section of the APC. I know that is basically what a Nocturn is, but I had a Nocturn and did not like it at all. I just want to have 3-4 Device Control sections to lock to various effects racks I use constantly.

I'd like to see a "PULL" with motorized faders.

I'd also like to see a PUSH MINI for easier portability.

Something like this:

+ faders and Push scripts for APC or Launchpad.

You know what, it has always iritated me that I cant fit a midi keyboard in front of the APC40 and the qwery keyboard beneth my screen. I can barely fit the APC and the Qwerty. Just got an idea. Since im only using the macros and the fades anyway, why not get rid of the APC40 all together, and get a keyboard with 8 fades and 8 macros.

Hmm. Feels like going back in time, but whatever works best you know..
Alternatively its the Push. I have the Native Kontrol scripts for the APC, but I rarely use it. I use the keyboard function from time to time, but I really miss a real keyboard. It just feels better to spread the hands over a wider palette. Playing notes and cords on buttons on a square space sort of feel like punching numbers on an ATM terminal or something. Doesnt feel very musical.

Ah yes, exactly what I would love. Rack up 4 or 5 of those puppies and I'd be a happy camper.

I'm assuming nothing ever came of that since the pic is so old?
