Consciousness

Post by rap masta rj » Tue Apr 09, 2013 4:48 pm

Is it possible to prove that consciousness is reserved only for that which is considered alive? I was reading an article about how it has been discovered that plants have a certain degree of consciousness and it got me thinking. The concept of matter having consciousness is a ridiculous concept but is it really possible to disprove that?

Not so fast,

you're gonna have to define 'consciousness' before moving onto your Q's.

did this book happen to be about Theosophy and make several references to H. P. Blavatsky?

I think the term consciousness is still up for debate. Our perspective of 'alive' and 'conscious' are pretty much dictated by movement and reaction at this point, right? Without one of those two things I feel there is currently no real physical scientific way for us to recognize 'consciousness'. Perhaps if the object communicated with you telepathically, but since that communication occurs within the observers subjective consciousness it could still be argued that the observer is just crazy. That is, until a way is found to accurately peek inside the observers subconscious as a way to prove that the communication actually happened. Hypothetically, of course.
