Artefacts in Operator bass
Hi there
So I am trying to make a sub bass sound using operator. I am just using the simplest sine wave in Operator's default setup, with midi notes at aout C0 or C1
What I notice is a fairly humungous clicking sound, both at the start and at the end of any played note.
Softening the attack and creating more of a sustain does not make a difference. There is still a sharp nasty click every time the instrument plays.
Why is this happening, and what can I do about it?

The most likely solution
Re: Artefacts in Operator bass
either that or you haven't set your envelopes properly. What that means is while the sustain is still occurring you're causing the oscillator to start again which causes it to cross a zero-crossing which causes the click.
Play with your ADSR and you might be able to get rid of it.
Also check how many voices you have going.

1. You're positive that you are specifically using the Attack, Release for all Carriers?
2. Make sure that Pitch is not set to anything, make sure Filter is not doing anything at all, and check your Polyphony and Retrigger. (You may want to decide whether or not you want Glide, even at a super short amount). Any low polyphony or retrigger will interrupt an already trailing waveform which can abruptly cut the previous one off as the next begins its sound.
3. Do you have any fx of any sort on that channel, or on the Master? Such as limiting/compression or saturators? As they adapt to the sudden amplitude change, they may jump to a state, causing a click.
Good luck!

this, low notes like that with non reset phase will start at a non zero crossing point, making a clicking soundAngstrom wrote:The most likely solution

Re: Artefacts in Operator bass
The decisive thing turned out to be a mixture of changing the attack / release and adjusting the phase. Works fine now.

usually the case. I didn't think it was the "phase" that was adjusted strange since by default it's 0 and if you had adjusted it you would know that it could be the source of your problem. The Finn wrote:The decisive thing turned out to be a mixture of changing the attack / release and adjusting the phase. Sometimes people uncheck the [R] without realising what it is/does.
Sometimes people start sound creation from a preset with [R] switched off.
