Why can't we have lights and screen use in user mode?

Post by glitchrock-buddha » Sun Apr 14, 2013 10:31 pm

Other specialized controllers let us use the lights and screen when in a generic midi mode. Like Machine, which shows the labels for the different midi controls on its screen when in midi mode and has it's pad lit up. I'm not liking this complete darkness in user mode.

Dig deep Ableton. Let there be light.

This is huge. Who wants to rock a broken looking controller especial when everyone knows it lights up. Weak.

Cue defensive Ableton apologists lecturing about you not being "prepared to do what's necessary to get the most out of your purchase", how they "don't understand all of you who just want it to work out of the box", and question why you bought a "flexible and adaptive audio environment, only to use the default behavior"...

you can make the pads light up when in user mode by sending them midi notes. use the same note that the pad sends out and velocity controls the color.

alternatively, you can use flocked's push developer kit for M4L to grab control of push's different physical controls and send them color information (or even text to the screen) as well as information from the control that you can use to create any midi message you want. it works via the Live Object Model. IMO, this is better than something like the NI control editor for Maschine.

Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed it was obvious but I'm talking about using Push also when working in other DAWs.

It needs a midi editor, just like any other controller out there, so we can set cc's, screen labels for various presets etc.
