Official Release More Crashy than the Beta?

Post by donmich » Sat Mar 09, 2013 5:06 pm

Im getting around 2-3 crashes a day at the moment, but the beta was rock solid for me. Anyone else experiencing this? I checked and dont have that build number we were told we would have to change. Can someone tell me what the latest build number is?
Im using a Mac with Lion in 64 bit.

Also, I cant for the life of me find where the crash reports are stored.

I've had a couple of crashes (Win 7/32, Live 9.0.1)where I had loaded M4L instruments and effects - I watched my memory usage in Windows climb to 100%, then Bam!

I think there's a memory leak somewhere.

Come to think of it, more often than not I was using M4L devices before a crash.

I'm batting a very high crash rate when I try to freeze tracks. It's more likely to happen on tracks with more than 1 clip in the session view. Based on percentages at the time of crash, it seems like it gets stuck between clips (e.g. if there are 2 clips it will crash at 50%). Jbridged plugs are the most problematic, but I know better than to challenge Ableton's totally selfless attitude on bridged plugins.

I don't know about "latest", but the version I have that's been mostly stable on my MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8 is "9.0.1 Build: 2013-02-26_c8dda62c6a 32-bit"

Try "/Users/<you>/Library/Application Support/Ableton/Live Reports".

Make sure you download and install the M4 Live from your account. Initially I installed the full version of Live 9 but was still using the M4 Live beta which caused a number of crashes. Everything perfect now.

Unfortunately I did not use Beta enough to compare but Live 9 is crashier than the last Live 8. I crashed about once an hour for a while.

The 64 bit apps takes much longer to open than the betas.

I've had 2 memory leaks with 64bit Live 9.0.2 on rMBP 10.8.3. Most recent was yesterday. It happend while I was doing NOTHING. Just had Live open with some plugins. Started a discussion, then looked at my screen telling me Im out of memory...I have 16GB ram. 8O

there was an index issue (memory hole) in the pre-release...
but it was fixed then... guess it's back.

as for the OP...
if you're experiencing this sort of issues you might be better off with the current beta instead of the official release

In my experience mfl stuff will get you a crash real fast. I'd say to spend some time without mfl and see if you still get lots of crashes.

definitely a good idea to keep on top of Max updates too. 6.1.2 is currently the latest version, and there is mention of a M4L bugfix in the notes for it:

Mine crashed a lot until I adjusted the latency settings for my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). Now no crashes whatsoever (unlike Live8).
Live 11 Suite (64 bit)
Windows 10 (64 bit)
