And the tempo, too! I name all my sketches like "102 Gm Sexy" or whatever so that when I want to combine material from the different projects in my NEW SONGS folder I can see the more likely contenders without opening them.

Good points guys - I'm going to start using the NOTES function (CMD + I) on the mater track to note this information about h scale and key.

Or maybe it is actually better to do it in the actual name of the track itself? Could get a bit messy looking - especially if you have a track that has a long name, anyway.

Thoughts?

I've had mine sitting on the floor in my studio for month now.......

Naming tracks.......bpm - name - key

Works great for my needs

Thanks man, cheers.

Although I probably wouldn't add the bpm to the project name, since I'm usually changing the.bprm of a project, sometimes even quite late in the creation process.

ah, bummer. I was really hoping this was fixed by now and I wasn't doing something right.

At the very least, I should be able to set the scale of the song, as a whole, and have Push default to that. <<< Please?!

honestly, it would be a fair bit of programming to implement that into the api. Why not just name your tracks properly, and let the ableton coders work on the real bugs?

I went with "name - key - camelot key - BPM" and am now realizing that I should have went with bpm first so that all of my projects would be sorted by tempo, maybe even camelot key second so that everything would then be sorted by key.. this is the way we have to think since Live's browser doesn't let us set up columns for BPM and key, which would make my life so much easier :|

Yeah sorry but for those cases the only option you may have is to go back and figure out the scale. I have this Android app called "Chord!" and it does reverse scale recognition - you put in the notes on a guitar neck and it tells you what scale it is. It has a LOT of scales built-in so it may at least help you get close to what you originally had. You may want to look into it, or if you'd like to private message me and I can look it up for you.

This is definitely a real hassle. I can understand if Push can't pull scale information from the song, but the default scale should AT LEAST be chromatic so you don't end up in a situation where your notes are invisible if you've programmed any that aren't in C Major!

ClyphX is free, and allows you to specify a default scale for Push.

I never knew this but so far have only played around in C Major anyway.

I'll now keep a note whenever I decide to change scales in future.

There is a user file in ClyphX in which you can set the startup scale and key for Push.

I dont think that this will help solve the issue here though.

The problem is Push not starting up with whatever key/scale was last used in that particular set.
