RAM usage after closing a project

Post by manasseh » Wed May 01, 2013 7:04 pm

When live 32-bit starts, it takes aproximately 150 mb of ram. After loading a large project and closing it again, the empty template of live takes up almost 500mb.
Is this normal?

Hi,

Is the RAM used or just reserved?
When reporting such issues, please let us know which operating system you are using.

Hi,

There will always be a part of your memory reserved for low level system ops such as undo or cached graphics for instance.

Depending on set complexity you can see the increment reserved in the memory for this.
- Read memory base load (i.e 200 MB)
- Load a set, read memory (i.e 400 mb)
- Make a new set, read memory (i.e 220 MB)

repeat this and you will see a small increment for each reload which on my testmachine couts some 10 to 20 MB memory. This will also be incremental to project size.

This is within normal boundaries, but if you had a 500MB increase pr reload, then it would be a memory leak, and also a problem.

Hi,

Looking at it, it seems exponential to your project size.

You can send me the project at mal@ableton.com and I can have a look if there are anything spiking here.

Mads
