Beware 10.8.3 (Mac) and Ableton 9 (latest)
Beware 10.8.3 (Mac) and Ableton 9 (latest)
Yet again I find myself making the mistake of updating an OS. Did it last night. Not sure why, must have let my guard down... doh.
Live 9 will not even open with core audio enabled, forget about trying to use an external audio device. Same result = crash report with no play time at all. Completely broken.
I tried Live 8 after the update as well, no problems with either core audio and a Presonus Firepod.
So how can one version be perfectly ok and the next won't even effectively open?

I upgraded from Lion to ML last weekend. No issues so far with 9.04
Re: Beware 10.8.3 (Mac) and Ableton 9 (latest)
Well, IDK. I've never encountered a version where it was completely broken.
I opened Live 8-9 times last night. Sluggish in response and buffering, with audio disabled. The moment I tried to enable audio I am transported to the crash page immediately, do not pass go, do not collect 100$.
At least it happens when I don't have any work due.
And of course I can't roll back because I haven't time machined it in forever. I'm doing it to myself. Stupidity can and is painful.

Try repairing your disk permissions with Disk Utility.

There are thousands of us running those two versions together without any issues though, what are you specs?

Hi,
We are working on a fix to adress the issue of crashes when starting up with no audio enabled.
You can help us by sending in your crashreports to crashes@ableton.com
Sorry for the inconvenience

Specs... uhm....
OS 10.8.3 Live 9.0.4
MBP 2009 8GB Ram 2.66GHz Duo Core
Not sure if anything else might be relevant.
I did send out all my crash reports last evening.
Not sure if disk utility would make any difference ( version 8 works fine ), not that I am unwilling to give it a go and do appreciate any help received.
I didn't have many issues before upgrading the OS.
Perhaps I might save someone from making the same error in judgement or a frustrating halt to their workflow.
I'm one of the fortunate few who managed to obtain a Push when they were first released. Opening up Live 8 last night was an eye opener how I've come to rely on Push and Live 9.
On the bright side most of the bugs should be worked out by the time the next batch of Push controllers are shipped. And probably still worth the wait.

2. If you upgraded your system from the "Software update" go to Apple.com and download the COMBO version on 10.8.3. Install this . It is always recommended for "sensitive apps" to use the combo updater rather than the software update one.

Very Interesting, I'll try the combo upgrade. If that fails, repair disk.
Let's see if it makes a difference.

Have you tried backing up then deleting preferences.cfg from /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Ableton?
