I see this stupid shit all of the time on sample cd's, and there seems to be some oddball connection with the whole Euro-Trance/House/Rave electronica thing. (See example screenshot below). Germans in particular seem to be obsessed with this headgear. What's the deal? Is it because they don't wear antiperspirant over there and generally smell like bovine, or is there some innate fear of the Commies filling ballons full of Mustard Gas and letting them drift west? Inquiring minds want....no, make that NEED to know. 8O

The connection is to industrial music, and harder edged stuff in general.
They used WWII and I images etc. a lot.

Dubstep has taken it up as well. It was a good iconographic image 20 years ago, at this point sort of silly.
