The Great Law of Peace / forgotten US History

Post by Vivo » Sun May 26, 2013 5:31 pm

The truth is that the U.S. Constitution is modeled in both principle and form on the Great Law of Peace of the Native American tribe known as the Iroquois.

This is absolutely, unequivocally historical fact.

In 1987, the United States Senate acknowledged that the Great Law of Peace of the Iroquois Nations served as a model for the Constitution of the United States. (U.S. S. Con. Res. 76, 2 Dec. 1987).

And since the U.S. Constitution was a model for the charter of the United Nations, the Iroquois Great Law of Peace is also a basis of international law.

AFAIK it is neither hateful lies nor the complete truth.

Certainly it is true that the arrangements of the iroquois nation was one of the models that were considered in the early debates. But it wasn't the only model.

I am very interested in how the forms of government evolved and changed over time. (It relates a bit to my day job). I tend to be suspicious of such oversimplified accounts.

This is particularly true for American democracy. Stories that try to simplify what American democracy is, where it comes from, or what it means, are going to miss the point. US democracy is a very strange and complicated thing

Everything about this issue is utterly debatable; postulated by Left Wingers who, because of their extreme hate for America, sit around and think of absurd shit like Lincoln was gay and took it up the ass from Seward whilst Mary Todd watched with massive dildo in hand - trying to decide who was going to be her prag for the night.

ffs.

Except most lefties wouldn't consider that idea as offensive or hateful.

Some people just like to think they've found some amazing hidden truth, and stick it on the internet without doing their homework.

It's the disinformation superhighway. Every version of history or science is on equal footing. You can pick whichever bits you like the sound of.

I never read Marx, nor Engels, but today I had a look at the Amercan Constitution.

Amendment VII forbids torturing of prisoners.

Here's the documentary about James Steele, he's the U.S. equivalent of Klaus Barbie.

Pah! It says a lot of things. That one's just filler.

The 2nd amendment is the only one you get to wave in people's faces and accuse them of being unconstitutional with.

So they wouldn't claim that because they hated America, now would they?

They might do it to piss off conservatives, but that's not the same thing.
