Pinball

Post by crystalmsc » Thu May 30, 2013 10:50 am

Really miss those good old times, playing with the real pinball table. I'm not an expert or anything, but really enjoying the creativity and hardware feel of the machine. Sadly, those are gone in my part of the world.

So..over the years, I played with PC and later on with PS2, PSP and NDS with pinball as the main interest. But of course, none are as satisfying as playing with the real one. Now, I'm preparing to realize my dream of having a satisfying Pinball experience.

For now, collecting real tables is not possible..also I'm bored soon enough, playing with just a small selection of tables. What interesting to me is to own as much collections with a solid platform, greater creativity..and a better display. The main problem when playing with PC or PS2 is that the display was too small compared to the real table, not to mention playing with the PSP and NDS.

Since the price of 50" LED display and PS3 are getting significantly lower lately. I just bought a garnet red PS3 and planned to update my display to a 50" in the following months. For now, the PS3 is connected to a basic 5.1 home theater system. Hopefully it's going to be an enjoyable moment, during the saving and waiting for the new bigger and better display.

But I'm so excited to start the collection with the Pinball Arcade, which is available for free from the Playstation Plus subscription. Going to download it tonight and planned to grab most of the pinball tables in the PSN, which is going to be around 50+ tables in total, for less than $150! Including the Marvel, Star Trek, Pinballistic and Zen Pinball 2 complete collections.

I already own some of the tables in the older PS2 and PSP collection, mainly from the Gottlieb and Williams Collections. But it's so exciting for being able to experience those great and classic tables with a new, more powerful processor and a nicer display.

So, after waiting for sometime, the journey will begin tonight. During the moment of obsession, I even made a song called: Pinball lol..

Anyone with a pinball appetite around here..what's your favorite Pinball table or game? :)

Yup; some years ago I was thrilled about an emulator like MAME but for real pinball machines (visual pinball); I had a few favorites I would go back to IRL:
Theatre of Magic
Indiana Jones
Twilight Zone
Creature From The Black Lagoon

so it was still good enough for me that I could play the virtual versions which were flawless.

I'm pretty sure someone had to recreate all the details to reproduce them too; a feat I don't think I would have enough patience for.
I did recently get the Pinball Collection HD for ipod last month, which is not bad at all, but nothing beats the real life emulations, second to thre real deal of course:)
Pinball.....fuckin love it.

whoaaa..those are great tables! What a great selection..wish the simulation will be available on PS3 one day. As I remembered, I had the opportunity to play with some of those a long time ago.

For now, I'm happy enough with the selection which is available for the PS3. Specially since I love both classic and modern - imaginative table, like what's available. Also that the PS3 is also able to play other games, such as the Sleeping Dogs, which is to me is almost like playing an RPG version pinball :) and the collection will be securely stored in PSN store, which is easy to download when porting to PS4 one day. To me..digital table has it's own benefit in the creativity area, which is hard to beat. But nothing can replace the sensation of playing the real one.

Love me some pinball. I'm spoiled as there is a place called the 1up right down the street from me. Has a bunch of pinball tables, skeeball, and old school arcade games. Plus they serve 40 oz. beers lol

Also went to a pinball expo a few weeks back for the third time. Such a blast and a lot of fun to watch the professionals in tournament play. http://www.pinballshowdown.com/

My faves off the top of my head: AC/DC, Twilight Zone, Addams Family, Star Wars (the old one), Iron Man, South Park, Wheel Of Fortune, X-Men...

+1 on the Addams Family pinball. I was also a big fan of the Terminator 2 pinball machine.

Just downloaded the Pinball Arcade last night..and played with my wife with lots of laughing and joy :)

..and the surprise is that it came with the "Theater of Magic" table! Love it.

I'm upgrading the collection slowly while waiting for the new display and enjoying those free games from the Playstation Plus. Cant's wait to play Theater of Magic with a bigger display.

Just noticed that both tables are included in the "Pinball Arcade - Season One Bundle" along with other 16 classic tables! Which is going to be my next purchase after finishing the Sleep Dogs :)

Shit, think I'm going to have to hit a little beer garden down the way that's got a bunch of tables. I'll report back on the quality...

That place sounds familiar...is that where they had that Donkey Kong showdown (remember the documentary a few years ago, King og Kong I think it was called?)

I wanted to like Addams Family but no matter what table, the balls always went down within the first couple minutes.

Now I remember when I worked at a casino they had Harley Davidson in a break room; that was a pretty good one.

They need to make a Game of Thrones table

How's that beer garden?

So far that beer garden is way too packed full of people to enjoy myself but I probably just have to get there on the right night or afternoon.
