Live5.0.1: Stuttering freeze hang

Working in the arrange view:

This problem seems to happen when my set/track is already largely developed (lots of clips+tracks+vsts).

I want to start playback of the track from a particular point so i click in the top bar (where the mouse cursor displays as a speaker icon) at that location.

Often, after i click, i get a small stuttering piece of audio (from the point at which i clicked) continuously repeating itself and the display becomes unresponsive, if i'm lucky i can force quit, but more often i have to hard reboot my machine.

This is a serious problem for me since it looks like it means i can't complete the project i'm working on.
