ReWire Reason 6.5 with Live 8.3.3 on Win XP 32-bit???

Post by looprication » Thu Jun 27, 2013 2:12 am

Hi All,

My workaround to this point has been to just use Reason on its own, or to just not use it altogether (more common).

I just reinstalled Reason as 32-bit per the ReadMe.pdf file that comes with Reason 6.5, but it didn't fix the issue.

Reason will always be my first love, and it would be great to use it with Live again, even if I don't plan on upgrading Reason anytime soon.

I may be upgrading Live though, and that could happen very soon.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply!

Reason never actually starts, I just get the dreaded error message as stated above, and then nothing.

I can see the Reason executable start up in my Windows Task Manager, but then after I click OK (the only button on the error pop-up), it disappears from the task manager.

FWIW, I installed Reason 5 last night, and that ReWires into Live 8.3.3 just fine.

Also FWIW, I tried ReWiring Reason 6.5 into my trial of Live 9 last night, and got the same error as when trying to ReWire it into Live 8.3.3. :(

Thanks for any help!

Cheers,

That is weird this should not be happening. Idk if it has something to do with Windows XP or not but I rewire Reason 6.5 to Live 8 all of the time. I am on Windows 8 64 bit though.

Problem solved!

Post by looprication » Fri Jun 28, 2013 1:27 pm

Hi All,

I figured it out. It turned out that this may have been a real out-of-memory error. Even though Live and Reason are only showing about a gig of memory usage in the Task Manager between the two, I suspect that Reason may be trying to reserve a lot more memory to work with.

So what I did was enabled the / 3GB switch in the BOOT.INI file as detailed on this page:

http://www.araxis.com/merge/topic_la...ressaware.html

The problem was that my template set in Live has a ton of Native Instruments plugins already on there, which were also likely reserving a bunch of memory. I remembered this /3GB switch trick from when I worked with SQL Server 7, so many versions ago

I hope this helps somebody out there!

Cheers,
