I 80% know the answer to this, but I'm relatively speaking still a noob and i wanted to consult the expertise on this board for a bit of reassurance
So i've been working on a project today, and when I solo certain tracks together, they don't always gel that well.. often they're creepy little noises or drones that bounce around the percussion and when i listen to them without the main body of the song, they sound a bit weird together
...but, when i get the whole mix going, i'm quite pleased with the results. I know, you're going to say, "if it sounds good then that's the job", but i can't get it out of the back of my mind i've committed some production cardinal sin lol
My thinking is that the sum is greater than the parts, and this is supposed to be how it goes, but I wanted to be sure i wan't going mad. Am i right..?
Some tracks sounds crap together, but in the mix it works..?

You're right, if it sounds good with everything as a song, it is good
