Crash Test dummy in Live 5.01...4-6% slower then 4.0...Waves

Post by John Daminato » Tue Aug 02, 2005 1:58 am

Just got live 5. was excited...The glory ended fast. Right off the bat I noticed it idles slower and the process's are slower...NOt good! Noticed some improvements as well, of course I shuld, thats why I upgraded...

cmmnd+D will sometimes crash live. when it does it's on the same track.

I could cmmnd+D on other tracks but as soon as I grab the crasher track, it uhmmm crashes, like clock work.

So I tried to just move one snip of audio in the track. This worked and it quite crashing with that particular track...Problem solved..wrong!

Ok, now I have to move 4bars of about 9 tracks over. Crash, screechh, restart live, lets try again..Crash, crash, crash.

Let's restart cpu and see if this helps...

The true test is if after aprox 8months of waves crashes, do my waves plugins work properly in 5 or not? The most stable version for waves plugins was V1.0.

Beside these complaints after 2 hours of use, looking forward to using new tools.

Waves V5.
To my knowledge waves still claims live is not a supported host. Infact Live at no time was claimed to be supported by waves...Im talking from like 2001 til present. I tested some plugs and it crashed. Seems like more on the L1 then the other plugs.

It also crashed when I resampled about 30 seconds of audio.

Luckily it only takes about a minute to recover and start up again.

I think I may have figured out one of the problems...I named a track: Snare 1/3's. This was the track that kept crashing. I thought it was maybe the (/) doing it. So I removed it, it still crashed but on the next start up it didn't. And hasn't crashed yet from moving pieces on that track. Although I also consoladated the track and then moved it. One or the other seemed to remedy this particular bug.

In my opinion there are too many bugs on the initial release and it seems like a common complaint is it runs a tad slower. One of the techs did say the new version uses more ram so...I have 896, wish I had a tad more but oh well for now...
