Motu MK3 Ultralite + Ableton 9
Motu MK3 Ultralite + Ableton 9
Hey all,
So, for some reason the ultralite mk3 isn't delivering the signal to my headphones from Live. The audio in/out configuration is set to the ultralite, but get no sound. Tried various programs/media outside of ableton. Sound is available when using youtube, netflix, VLC to play mp3s, so Ableton is the only one not reproducing sound. It's worked before. This time I connected the maschine mk2 midi to it. When it wasn't working, I disconnected the maschine from the motu, so now it's just motu --> laptop.
Os is MacOs 10.8.4 Core i7.

Re: Motu MK3 Ultralite + Ableton 9
is it just in the headphones or in the mains too?
Re: Motu MK3 Ultralite + Ableton 9
just checked the mains. The mains work oddly enough, so it's just the headphones through the headphone jack on the motu that isn't delivering the signal.
Edit: when I checked the mains out, I had the 'mains' set up in the motu audio setup to receive on headphones. When I switched the 'main' back to 'main out' it comes out through the monitors, so I'm missing something here in terms of monitoring through headphones using the 'main outs'.

have you loaded up cuemix to see if there's any weird routings, or settings that are odd?
or alternatively reset your ultralite to defaults?

Re: Motu MK3 Ultralite + Ableton 9
For me (MK2), I have to switch to the default builtin audio interface and back to the MOTU to apply changes. Every time. Reproducible. That surely wasn't the case in Live8.
Don't know if this can solve your issue, but that's something worth keeping in mind.
Besides, +1 for checking your routing in Cuemix.

On my audio express I have to push the power / volume knob to achieve certain output setting, main outs / main outs and head phones / or just head phones.
Ableton 9, Feeltune Rhizome, Focusrite Pro, Mpk249....

the standard setup is to have main outs 1 & 2 as the default stereo output, which is channels 1 & 2 coming out of Live. if you want your headphones to have the same audio, set the phones to main out 1 & 2 as well.
check the settings in MOTU Audio Setup, and in the Phones menu of CueMix FX.
if you are talking about the Cue Out from Live, check it's routing in the I/O panel of your master channel in Live.

Hey guys,
Thank you all so much for the replies. Yes, it was cuemix that I needed to tweak in under the 'phones' dropdown. Initially, I never ran cuemix as I figured the motu audio setup would be enough for the switch without launching cuemix. i should have read the cuemix part of the manual. Thank you all again and cheers.

you should actually be able to change the setting in either MOTU Audio Setup or CueMix FX, and it should automatically update in the other.
are you running the latest drivers from MOTU?

I was updating drivers for Windows to their latest and I lost the audio driver, i.e. it never showed up so I did a rollback and am sticking with what is working. And as you found out there are settings that you need to set up for audio out and phones on the Ultralite (I have a 828Mk II FW set up) and had to go through and reset things back up as I hosed it the other day poking around lol....now it seems to be back and working. Just need to leave the PC up while it indexs the library (8.3.4)....
