I really hope you're still checking this thread cause the dopest live drummer/ableton guru has yet to be mentioned!
Check out Shigeto, I saw him live and it blew my mind watching him go back and forth between mpd and his kit.
I think he records it all live while he's shredding and then samples it.

Also check out his latest 2 albums. Clearly most of the percussion and drum sounds going on there are all real recordings.

Check some more of the nice Brokenbeat and NuJazz tunes, they are really often make use of live drums in a good way. You can check my souncloud page too. I really like to use real drums, they gives a nice sound. Its all about your vision, play around an d dont listen too much others music with recreating in mind.
