Can't add instrument to existing channel?

Post by Citizen » Sun Aug 04, 2013 6:25 am

OK, I have a basic MIDI channel, with my default Channel Strip in it (EQ/Comp/Limiter).

The thing is - I can't seem to be able to add an Instrument before it - Push is only letting me see effects from the browser. :(

Is there a workaround for this? I just want to load some instruments!

It appears you have to have an Instrument loaded and then add your FX with Push. From what I can see you can add it with your mouse.
If you are saving a midi channel with FX as part of your set, you may want to load an instrument and your fx and save it. Then you can always just change the instrument to what ever when needed. If you think about it, it is logical..

Yes, I can add it with my mouse - but that defeats the purpose of Push.

Yeah, that works - you can only change or swap an instrument, but not add one. Weird.

Shift + Add Effect should do the trick, as mentioned in the thread where you asked exactly the same question a couple of weeks ago ;-)

Oh!

It does strike me as it being a bit counter-intuitive to press 'Add effect' - when in this instance, really, we are adding an instrument.

I still find the whole navigation of Live through Push to be hugely counterintuitive - I would use the damn thing a lot more if that weren't the case.

I agree it's kind of strange, but if you think of it as monohusche described it in the second thread I posted it is quite logical:

"Add effect" adds an device to the right of the current device which in this case (EQ8) only allows other audio devices to be added (no instruments).
"Shift" +"Add effect" adds an device to the left which could be anything in this case, but it shows the instrument selection first in this case.

In my opinion it is for the most part very intuitive, but yes, to get quick access to everything you need in a live situation you'll not get around practice (as with every instrument).
