Alesis Monitor ones

cause they're old as hell and I can't afford new ones yet, but I do know their sound.

Mackie Tapco S-5s.

Because they were cheap, all I could afford, active (so need to buy amps) and because I was using a standard home hi-fi system before I had them. The S-5s may not be the worlds best monitors but are a helluva lot better than a hi-fi!

The quality of my music has literally come on in leaps and bounds since I bought them. Mastering is impossible without monitors of some kind.

JBL control 1's. if yur mix sounds good on them it will sound good anywhere. I find all the current batch of so called studio monitors to samey. Do yourself a favour and get a set of control 1s for about $100. Add the sub if you like and you cant go wrong with them.

Then again only a mentally challenged individual would use control 1's as their studio monitor. I guess thats me

I got em at guitar center for 312.00usd. It was like 60% off the guitar center retail price. I would say they where 40% off the Guitar Center haggle price.

Never pay full price at Guitar Center. The sales model is built on the used car pyramid of sales. You can price it down.

Yamaha MSP5 Active because I had for 6 years the NS10Ms and I love yamaha ( I also bought a sampler and a synth from yamaha) and, poor me, I had no money enough for the MSP10, but now the MSP10 are coming in a couple of weeks.

Behringer Truth's.

Sound great in my room.
I get good mixes from them.
They've been 100% reliable .
Best sound for the price range (here in Oz anyway)
Decent low/mid/highs with tone controls on the back.
Much better bass response than my old Alesis Point 7's.
Both 1/4" and XLR Jack input.
Cheaper than buying passives + a decent amp.
Ok .... I'l actually admit I like them.
Still couldn't get anything close to them for less than $250 more at the time which was a BIG factor (especially when someone else is buying them for you).
They sound like they cost a hell of alot more than they do.
If they ever need replacing it won't break the bank to do so.
Though I must add I have NEVER had a single problem with them since the dy of purchase.

BX-8's

sounded better - flatter - seemed more robust and had favorable or better reviews compared to others i listened to in thier price range

i have a problem with bass response in my room but its not the monitors, its the room

if i need to hear things better i can mixdown on my friends mackies in a much more acoustically sound studio.

Behringer Truth's (B2031A) too...

a lot of people seems to have the opinion that these monitors are shite... i have found them really easy to mix with, & the mixes sound good on most systems after prod. someone told me they are an exact copy of mackies even down to the components...? not expensive and by far the best buy in the price range.
I even use them as a small p.a. for small café/gallery type performances.

NS-10

Cause I've borrowed them from a place I work. To tell te truth, I was previously working in a studio, where we had Genelec 1031 and the NS-10. After some time there, I really prefered working on the NS-10, cause they sound less beautilfull, but the Genelec did let pass too many mistakes with my ears not noticing, especially in the mediums. So I'm sure that a good sounding mix on the NS-10 will sound good. Misses a bit of low and high frequencies, but I'm ok with that for now. I also had a pair of HR-824, but it was the same as the genelec. Too comgortable.
It's a bit odd, I know.
btw, I'm not doing anything top-class. Would have to have a proper studio for that

yeah, NS10 never lies, but sometimes they dies... I'm thinking if it's worth to replace the blown woofer and tweeter on mines or just continue using them as speaker stand...

BX-8s. I moved them from the computer table to a proper pair of sand-filled monitor stands, and the bottom end is so much tighter now (kinda like my last girlfriend...)
