9.1 note sequencer

Post by staplesyrup » Fri Sep 27, 2013 10:00 am

9.1 has a note sequencer, accessed by pressing note twice. I like it alot.

The release notes for the last version say drum racks can be placed inside an instrument rack, so that the note sequencer can be used on drum racks too. Ive had no luck getting this to work. Anyone?

Also, does anyone know of any documentation for the new features?

Me too, but I know of at least one guy who will not like it :)

I think you should ask such questions in the beta forum... (haven't tried this yet myself)

The english manual included in the beta gets frequently updated. Other language versions can be out of date. If you don't use the english version of Live you can find the english manual here:

C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live 9 Beta\Docs

For Win, don't know for Mac, but probably something similar.

Just got the Beta yesterday. The Note sequencer is better implemented than I thought it would be. It's basically the piano roll editor but completely hands on. Scroll up and down the octaves/notes with the touchstrip, very fluid, or use SHIFT+touchstrip to jump a whole octave up or down. Think you can use the octave buttons as well. The top row of pads selects the length of the loop similar to drumrack sequencing.

Holding down a pad on an entered note brings up 2 main options on the LCD - Note and Automation. Note lets you increase/decrease note length, nudge it, volume etc. Automation brings up parameters for the last selected device/effect to well, automate. And it's all per step.

Great fun. I know there's already a video from Ableton demonstrating this, just thought I'd share some thoughts.
