MIDI Guitar vs Roland GK-3 and Roland GI-20 vs GR-55
Re: MIDI Guitar vs Roland GK-3 and Roland GI-20 vs GR-55
Hi rbro,
I have a Triple Play for a few days now and I'm very happy with it, it works perfectly with regards to tracking, latency and system integration.
I use Live9 on WIN8/64 with a RME Fireface400 audio interface.
In the Triple Play software in standalone mode you make the basic setup like string sensitivity, audio card setup/latency configuration and this is stored into the device on your guitar, so in Live9 you can use these preferences without starting the TP software again.
Best wishes,
Thomez

This plugin works very well for me. No need for hw pickup.

That's pretty cool! Latency is not that great, but still pretty impressive. How do I get it to record MIDI though?
Re: MIDI Guitar vs Roland GK-3 and Roland GI-20 vs GR-55
I run it as plugin inside Live with 32 samples on Live settings for my audio interface and latency is non-existent (1-2ms). Check your settings how low can you adjust. Route it's output to another channel with synthesizer and you'll be able to record.

Whoa! Excellent tip.
How is this thing used with Ableton, in practice?
Re: MIDI Guitar vs Roland GK-3 and Roland GI-20 vs GR-55
I use it all the time, I think it's better than most of the hardware options myself. Tracks great for me, easy to use in a daw, etc. There's an iOS version too.

I use the Jam Origin MIDI Guitar. I have the Fishman Triple Play but don't care for it. I also have an AXON AX100mkII.
Bang for the buck its Jam Origin's unit that I use...all the time. The FTP is at the bottom of a drawer someplace, the AXON hardly ever gets turned on.

hi, just about to splurge and grab the jam origin midi guitar. a couple questions since i assume you are using it with ableton 9.
do you do anything with latency settings on ableton differently?
will i be able to trigger bass sounds with it and get a reasonable reaction on the low strings with popping type finger playing?
how is it with ableton? i am assuming it would be set up as a vst plug in.
any advice is appreciated.
it looks great and price is sweet too.

Bumping this topic because I'm looking for the best way to play my guitar as a midi device live. I'm looking to track with Ableton, and willing to consider an actual custom guitar if it's not outrageously priced. Since it will be live, little to no latency is a big priority. Anyone out there have enough info to chime in? Looks like the dates on previous posts are a little off, but if the prior posts were older perhaps there are newer products on the market?
Thanks!!

hi
i had a custom bass guitar made a few years ago buy a guy in scotland. http://www.baileyguitars.co.uk/
it's a single stringed midi bass http://slatepipe.co.uk/wp-content/galle ... 18dd_o.jpg
with a ghost modular midi pickup system in it : http://www.graphtech.com/products/brands/ghost
the signal goes from the gk3 cable into the gr30 then into ableton via midi usb cable, then i can get it to play whatever noises i want. mostly i play self recorded samples and also a few world music synths. i navigate around my live set and record and make loops and whatever with a softstep2, i used to use an fcb but i spilled beer on it and have still to get it fixed : https://vimeo.com/91791306
here's me playing some spoken word voice samples on it provided by one of my cockney friends at work https://vimeo.com/141098573
latency is not noticeable for me, sometimes it plays erratic notes, i think mostly if the string is a bit out from the correct tuning. but i tend to play improvised noisy stuff anyway so it's not that important for me
it's got a regular audio jack out too, so i can play it as a regular bass as well : https://vimeo.com/141098580
cheers

Anyone that uses a Zeta guitar? It's the only MIDI guitar I've played with normal strings and practically zero latency on all strings, because notes are detected on the frets. It's kinda unbelievable no-one has done that again.
Make some music!

gk3 into vg99 is excellent for controlling synths like omnisphere in live
