Behringer CMD LC-1 ???

Post by nemoy » Fri Oct 04, 2013 9:31 am

I've just stumbled uppon the Behringer CMD series
and instantly thought to myself, this seems to offer
interesting possibilities to make your very own
huge controller out of several little CMD units.

But i havent found anything about the LC-1
clip grid behaviour, especially when combining
several units, to get a bigger grid;
how do they work together? and what about
scene launch buttons? how does navigation
through a live set work on those?

has anyone in here some insight on this stuff?

Dear nemoy,

Thanks for your questions about the BEHRINGER CMD LC-1 MIDI controller. It's an excellent choice for clip launching, grid style sequencing and modulating your favorite parameters in Ableton Live.

It is possible to connect multiple units for session control. Each unit has its own 4x5 grid with stop, left/right and up/down navigation, transport, track on/off, solo/cue and rec arm functionality for its respective zone. The LC-1 does not have devoted scene launch buttons.

A diagram of the mapping with our included Remote MIDI Script is available here:

Feel free to PM or post here if you have further questions.

Given that the LC1 is in roughly the same price range as a Novation Launchpad. i don't see where it should have any advantages in comparison with a LP except for the knobs. It's missing scene buttons, the 8x8 grid and of course the LP as the User1/2/Mixer mode.

On a side note, i totally don't get how Behringer would develop the DC1 but not make the pads velocity sensitive when one of its main purposes is using it as a drum controller ?
