Take a look in your Log.txt file for Remote Script errors as they'll likely explain what's going on. If you find some that you can't decipher, post them here.

Tom - this is what's baffling me...how can it be indeed? But i have tested it thrice now, both with 9.05 and b.24, any VST configured, and then racked - you cannot access the parameters and banks anymore. You can see all the banks, but it stays at the top Rack Macros level parameter-wise. This bug occurs with just the github file, modified or not. It would be great if anyone could test this. Just use the github file or any modded py file, and then configure a few parameters on any VST. See if you can still access them. With Push of course - it's fine otherwise.

Metastatik - thanks, I will heed your advice and try and get to the bottom of this.

Guys, it's been most informative and actually exciting, but I have to spend some time with my girlfriend now. I will rejoin this endeavour tomorrow.

I can recreate the issue tedlogan is having and it occurs with M4L devices too. Looks like a weird decompilation issue. I'll post a revised version of Devices.py shortly that will address this.

Okay, I think I've fixed the issue that tedlogan was having and have uploaded it as well as an *.html file that lists all of the parameters accessible for all of Live's devices and a *.pdf file that includes the instructions I posted earlier in this thread. The Live Instant Mapping Editing Kit includes everything you need to do your editing.

You are a saviour sir. Thanks very much for fixing whatever the compiling problem was. So far, both the modded native Live devices work fine, as well as my current VST of choice, Sylenth (racked up as a preset and configured with the max 128 parameters). The presets I configured and racked for the VST now works as expected.

You've enabled us to truly customize Push in regards to instruments with no compromise. Hats off.

I'm looking very much forward now to buying Push and of course your PXT script Stray, so I can have drum rack send levels and step sequencing multiple drum pads at the same time all from Push :-)!

TomV, wait til you actually handle the Push. It is a magnificent thing, especially with the M4L expression control device. It's the bollocks of a colossal fire breathing dog.

Here is a modified version of TomViolenz's Operator setup. Osc A - B are banks 1 - 4, rest is all the same, apart from me swapping LFO Rate for LFO Sync (Rate only controls non-synched LFO, and Sync only controls synched LFO). Then Bank 10 is the "main" bank - controlling stuff like the Algorithm, Spread, Glide etc. Bank 11 is just a miscellaneous bank at the moment, controlling the Filter's Drive Type and Amount. The Best of Bank is the Wave Type of Osc A - B, and their volumes. So very easy to dial in a rough sound from there all in one top bank, and then you can dive in and completely control Operator via 11 Banks.

Sadly the Volume section's parameters in the central window can not be mapped, for example choosing what Velocity would affect, and how much, or what Aftertouch would affect, and how much. Not a big deal at all though - I've saved my default Operator with Velocity controlling overall Volume at 70% for a bit more expression. Anyway, here is the code for whoever is interested:

Code: Select all

OPR_BANK1 = ('A Coarse', 'A Fine', 'Osc-A Level', 'Osc-A Wave', 'Ae Attack', 'Ae Decay', 'Ae Sustain', 'Ae Release')
OPR_BANK2 = ('B Coarse', 'B Fine', 'Osc-B Level', 'Osc-B Wave', 'Be Attack', 'Be Decay', 'Be Sustain', 'Be Release')
OPR_BANK3 = ('C Coarse', 'C Fine', 'Osc-C Level', 'Osc-C Wave', 'Ce Attack', 'Ce Decay', 'Ce Sustain', 'Ce Release')
OPR_BANK4 = ('D Coarse', 'D Fine', 'Osc-D Level', 'Osc-D Wave', 'De Attack', 'De Decay', 'De Sustain', 'De Release')
OPR_BANK5 = ('Filter Type', 'Filter Freq', 'Filter Res', 'Fe Amount', 'Fe Attack', 'Fe Decay', 'Fe Sustain', 'Fe Release')
OPR_BANK6 = ('Pe Amount', 'Pe End', 'Pe Init', 'Pe Peak', 'Pe Attack', 'Pe Decay', 'Pe Sustain', 'Pe Release')
OPR_BANK7 = ('Osc-A < Pe', 'Osc-B < Pe', 'Osc-C < Pe', 'Osc-D < Pe', 'LFO < Pe', 'Pe Amt A', 'Pe Dst B', 'Pe Amt B')
OPR_BANK8 = ('LFO Type', 'LFO Range', 'LFO Sync', 'LFO Amt', 'Le Attack', 'Le Decay', 'Le Sustain', 'Le Release')
OPR_BANK9 = ('Osc-A < LFO', 'Osc-B < LFO', 'Osc-C < LFO', 'Osc-D < LFO', 'Filt < LFO', 'LFO Amt A', 'LFO Dst B', 'LFO Amt B')
OPR_BANK10 = ('Algorithm', 'Spread', 'Tone', 'Volume', 'Transpose', 'PB Range', 'Glide On', 'Glide Time')
OPR_BANK11 = ('Shaper Type', 'Shaper Amt', 'Time < Key', '', '', '', '', '')
OPR_BOB = ('Osc-A Wave', 'Osc-B Wave', 'Osc-C Wave', 'Osc-D Wave', 'Osc-A Level', 'Osc-B Level', 'Osc-C Level', 'Osc-D Level')
OPR_BANKS = (OPR_BANK1,
OPR_BANK2,
OPR_BANK3,
OPR_BANK4,
OPR_BANK5,
OPR_BANK6,
OPR_BANK7,
OPR_BANK8,
OPR_BANK9,
OPR_BANK10,
OPR_BANK11)
OPR_BOBS = (OPR_BOB,)
OPR_BNK_NAMES = ('Oscillator A', 'Oscillator B', 'Oscillator C', 'Oscillator D', 'Filter', 'Pitch Envelope', 'Pitch Destination', 'LFO', 'LFO Destination', 'Main', 'Misc')

Hey Ted,

I'm doing all the Live devices right now. Audio and Midi FX are done. Instruments: Analog, Operator, Sampler, Simpler, Impuls will follow shortly. Tension, Electric, Collision a little later.
Did you get the PM?

Yup, I will test them now. Btw - i MIGHT be wrong on this, but remember when you first did Operator in 8 banks, with Osc A only in the BoB bank? If you put parameters only in the BoB bank then they will not show up, Push will instead show the first bank as the BoB - that's why wayyy back in the thread I could not find it. Just a heads up in case you're configuring some devices like this, might save you a lot of work.

On a side note - I am in love with Operator now....such a joy to control it completely from Push. FM Synthesis is
wonderfully unpredictable.

Edit 1: OK, I've copy pasted all into my modified py file. Not working, but don't worry, this is what happens when I'm too hasty/careless. So, I will now apply each device's code one by one in order to find the culprit.

Cool.
I'm gonna avoid doing that BoB thing then. With 16 banks it's not necessary anyways.

I think it makes more sense to put the "Pe End" after "Pe Peak".

BTW, thanks to all of you. I'm playing with this right now.
That is a fucking invaluable pile of informations. Great job.

Yeah I put it this way mostly for consistency between envelopes (for the muscle memory) as I had some were I didn't put the End value, so in other envelopes that would have meant moving it around. Bad for consistency!
BTW: In the last one I made I added a few more pages, so that almost every envelope parameter can be accessed :-)

I'm testing TomViolenz's device mappings for all the audio and midi effects, and some of the instruments. Really good work he's doing, with far superior mappings than Ableton's half-assed ones. Some don't work though, so if anyone can test this one as an example, which is not working for me:

Code: Select all

ALG_BANK1 = ('OSC1 Level', 'OSC1 Octave', 'OSC1 Semi', 'OSC1 Detune', 'OSC1 Shape', 'OSC1 Balance', 'PEG1 Amount', 'PEG1 Time')
ALG_BANK2 = ('F1 Type', 'F1 Freq', 'F1 Resonance', 'F1 To F2', 'FEG1 Attack', 'FEG1 Decay', 'FEG1 Sustain', 'FEG1 Rel')
ALG_BANK3 = ('AMP1 Level'', 'AMP1 Pan', 'AEG1 S Time', 'AEG1 Loop', 'AEG1 Attack', 'AEG1 Decay', 'AEG1 Sustain', 'AEG1 Rel')
ALG_BANK4 = ('LFO1 Shape', 'LFO1 Sync', 'LFO1 SncRate', 'LFO1 Speed', 'LFO1 PW', 'LFO1 Phase', 'LFO1 Delay', 'LFO1 Fade In')
ALG_BANK5 = ('OSC2 Level', 'OSC2 Octave', 'OSC2 Semi', 'OSC2 Detune', 'OSC2 Shape', 'OSC2 Balance', 'PEG2 Amount', 'PEG2 Time')
ALG_BANK6 = ('F2 Type', 'F2 Freq', 'F2 Resonance', 'F2 Slave', 'FEG2 Attack', 'FEG2 Decay', 'FEG2 Sustain', 'FEG2 Rel')
ALG_BANK7 = ('AMP2 Level'', 'AMP2 Pan', 'AEG2 S Time', 'AEG2 Loop', 'AEG2 Attack', 'AEG2 Decay', 'AEG2 Sustain', 'AEG2 Rel')
ALG_BANK8 = ('LFO2 Shape', 'LFO2 Sync', 'LFO2 SncRate', 'LFO2 Speed', 'LFO2 PW', 'LFO2 Phase', 'LFO2 Delay', 'LFO2 Fade In')

OPR_BNK_NAMES = ('Oscillator A', 'Oscillator B', 'Oscillator C', 'Oscillator D', 'Filter', 'Pitch Envelope', 'Pitch Destination', 'LFO', 'LFO Destination', 'Algorithm/Shaper/Pan', 'Envelope Detail OscA', 'Envelope Detail OscB', 'Envelope Detail OscC', 'Envelope Detail OscD', 'Envelope Detail LFO', 'Envelope Detail Filter')
Usually I tried to have both the synced and the free rate, the encoders would of course do only something if the respective mode is selected.
Edit: Yeah:'LFO Range' is the choice between sync and free, 'LFO Rate' is the free rate, and 'LFO Sync' is the synced rate.
