nested track groups

Post by spookynote » Sun Sep 05, 2010 7:12 am

i'm sure this has been asked before, but i couldn't find the thread for it:

nested track groups! nested track groups would have two really big advantages:

1. improved track organization
2. (and more importantly) track automation/mixing would be WAY easier and more powerful

imagine the following track groupings:

|--vocals
|-- background vocals
| |-- background vocal #1
| |-- background vocal #2
|-- main vocals
| |-- main vocal #1
| |-- main vocal #2

the great thing about this set up is that you can do automation on both the "background vocals" and "main vocals" groups, while still having an independent volume control for the entire "vocals" group... and best of all that volume control won't have any automation recorded into it (making it way easier to mix).

and what if you decide to automate the main vocals group? at that point you won't have a "clean" volume control anymore (one without any automation), but all you have to do is group "vocals" into another parent group, and there you go, you've got a free volume control again. this would make mixing so much easier. seriously... if it's not already planned for Live 9, please consider it.

How Many Threads Do We Have To Make About This?? What does it take? Artists are asking for feature improvements to help their work, they don't want to be ignored and then fed a load of hype about a new skin and a compressor.
