Hi,
aftertouch is a nice way to modulate certain parameters.
When you strike a key on a keyboard with aftertouch, mostly it will have no effect until you press the key somehow hard.
With push however aftertouch is emitted mostly on every pad strike.
Thats less good if you modulate the pitch or lfo amount.
Is there a way to delay the aftertouch somehow that the pad only emits aftertouch after a time you hold it ?
Cheers
Marc
Delaying Aftertouch ?
Re: Delaying Aftertouch ?
Hi Ansolas
As far as I know there is no direct way to have a delay on aftertouch data. You my be able to pull of some complex MIDI filtering and routing to make it happen but I think it would be easier to achieve the effect you going for at the source.
So the question is, what is your aftertouch controlling? If it's for example an LFO amount on a synth/sampler you could adjust the the hold or delay time on the LFO.
It really depends on what your doing in order to come up with the most creative and easy way to achieve the effect you are looking for.
I don't know how I would go about it in Ableton (haven't use it that long) but in Cubase I would filter the aftertouch data out of the main channel using a MIDI filter but also send the MIDI data to another track and filter out eveything except the aftertouch data. Then I would put a track delay on it and adjust for the amount of time I want delay the aftertouch data, then route that data back to the original track. Not sure how you would keep a MIDI loop from happening though unless that is built in somehow.
Anyway, seems like a convoluted process to acheive it which is why I suggested looking to the source first.

Re: Delaying Aftertouch ?
Thank you for you extensive answer.
I bet its possible with Max4Life.
Using aftertouch to modulate the Pitch or Volume, leads to a quite nice expressive playing.
Especially when used on real acoustic instruments.
Anyways , until then I just keep using my jd800 for this purpose.
