record endless hours of twiddling the one of these days spend endless hours making drum beats to the Bass Station twiddling. the best Happy Accidents happen in those first few hours/days with new gear.
Good thinking man!

Hard to choose just one. I bought more software last year than most.
The funnest most easy to get great results from though would be MOTU's MachFive 3.

Strong contenders would be Camel Audio's Alchemy, Metasynth, and the new desktop.

Without a doubt my Focal Solo 6 BE monitors. Although I had a rough year and considered giving up on music completely, the benefit that I got from that upgrade is amazing.

For me it's the iPad and all the fantastic music apps it affords you. My absolute favourite being Samplr; what a stunning tool that is.

Push of course comes a very close second :)

In all fairness live 6 was easy on the cpu for 32 bit systems and you could build your own drum racks mixing simpler and sampler into a giant instrument rack. I wouldn't blame you for staying on it for so long.

Zoom H1 recorder and volca beats. An SSD drive also has made a huge difference.

My Alesis QX49 is my favorite, even though I didn't actually purchase it (Christmas gift).

Finally bought a rocking ADK notebook. Runs live way better than my current desktop. Mobile studio FTW 8)
It's been a long time coming and I could not be happier.

Oh, no list, but the Traktor set up ( Z2, X1(Mk 2) & F1 that I have 'collected' over the past 12 months is killer fun,( and now also mobile )

I will buy nothing in 2014.
