Will Bitwig audio engine shit all over Abletons?
We all know the weakest area of Ableton is it's audio engine..
Surely Bitwig must have taken note and worked this out.

Do we have mute/or ignore functions on this forum? If not, let's get on that "chop chop!"
Re: Will Bitwig audio engine shit all over Abletons?
I have a blog post coming tomorrow with before and after examples, as well as some phase cancellation tests showing the differences. Statistically, things are about what we would expect down to the least significant bit, though dithering might cover that anyway. Well, depending on what kind of dither Bitwig uses, I haven't got a clear answer yet as to which Bitwig is really using, looks weird on the meters. Live really stepped up to the plate with the POW-r stuff, so unless Bitwig is using something like MBIT+2, I don't know how they expect to compete against Live at this point on that front, whew!
On the plus side, the fader curves and panning laws in Bitwig are a lot better than Live, they're only down about -0.008dB at unity when both channels are summed and M+S cancelled. Looks like Bitwig finally realized people are sick of the choice of a 3dB or 6dB pan law and split the difference at 4.5dB's. Honestly it's about time someone finally took that leap, so props for that.
The audio difference when automation is in use make it a bit more confusing though. Live definitely has more definition up to the last 10% of the automation range, but Bitwig must be using 128bit curves, because the amount of resolution at the top of the scale is commendable for an app in this price range. Seriously game changing stuff, provided you have the accurate metering in your studio to make sure you're not clipping that close to 0dBFS. My guess is more pro's use Bitwig for this reason, but that's just a guess.
Oh, and fuck off with people thinking stuff like audio "engines" (where do you put the gas?) actually matter in this day and age. Go make some music people and stop worrying about the stuff that doesn't matter one bit. Pun intended.
