R.I.P. Folk Singer Icon & Activist Pete Seeger

Post by oblique strategies » Tue Jan 28, 2014 10:30 pm

The legendary folk singer and activist Pete Seeger has died at the age of 94. Seeger helped found the American folk music movement. He played with Woody Guthrie and The Almanac Singers in the 1940s, stood up against Senator Joseph McCarthy’s witch hunt in the 1950s, and opposed the Vietnam War in the 1960s, inspiring generations of protest singers to come.

Just hear about this on NPR today. RIP...
While I was a little more drawn in by the "harder music" my parents exposed me to at the time ( rolling stones, doors, Beatles, jefferson airplane, jimi, janis, etc...) he was still in rotation.

RIP. Although I'm personally a bigger fan of his father.

I never knew he came from such a prominent musicologist father....I understand the father was very influential in starting up the UC california Berkley music program back in the early 20th century (before ableton)
