Griz/Gramatik Bass synthesis
Griz/Gramatik Bass synthesis
My 2 favorite producers Griz and Gramatik. I love the way they blend live instruments in with funky beats, old school soul and hip hop vocals, and those crazy bass lines that just wobble and shake the shit out of you when you hear it through a good system. But as i listen more and more to the bass in these two guys songs i hear these constant changes of whats being modulated and at what rhythm and on and on and on... It comes out to be quite an awesome unique sound but i was just wondering whats the technique used with the basses and synthesizing them? is it all about stacking and then automating the hell out of it? Are they completely different basses all together? Do they use Bass Synths or something like simpler with a wave sample or a live bass sample? Any techniques, tips, ideas, i would greatly appreciate!

I really like Gramatik. Not much help with the bass production. Here's a little interview that tells some production ideas.

Re: Griz/Gramatik Bass synthesis
there's a plethora of tutorials on youtube about making phat bass lines in ableton. I would just watch one a day - and then try out that technique. Do 4 or 5 and you'll start to get a good idea of how to do it.

I've found this guy very useful recently:

I don't know what genre Griz and Gramatik are, but it's definitely related to this guys glitch hop leanings...
