Studio Monitors, <$600
I am currently looking for an upgrade from my KRK RP5's. What should I be looking into? I am working with a price point around $500-600, can be flexible if necessary. Thanks!
Re: Studio Monitors, <$600
The KRKs are pretty good for their price range. I'm not sure replacing your $ 300 pair of speakers with a $ 500-600 one will give you a noticeable improvement. Especially since you're already used to the sound of the KRKs. Many producers keep monitors they already outgrew in theory because they know them so well and how they sound.
Unless you're willing to invest in a $ 1000+ pair of high-end studio monitors you'd be better off just keeping your money or buying something else.
If you're not happy with your sound, have you tried treating your room?

I've been thinking about a similar upgrade. Does anybody know if any high end monitors have really long warranties?

KRK RP6s.

I wrote a big long thing about the yamaha hs80m's just to realize they are discoed. I dunno if the replacements are as good.

Hmmmmmmmm, I read this:

And though I'm not sure I completely "trust" GS's, it does look like the newer ones are a good though for not much more than your budget. I'm worried about the shielding, though the one dude says it's not going to be a problem.

I did a little research, and as of now, my top three contenders are as follows :
ADAM Audio F5s
Yamaha HS7s
Presonus Eris E8s
What do you guys think?

Focal CMS 65 is a real step up. it's at the top of your price range, but look around.
I demoed dozens of monitors from two thousand dollar Genelecs on down and thought the CMS 65's were the flattest with the best range. The Adam A7X's were close, but the way air is pushed on them was too much, and they seem to exaggerate the bass.

great monitors, but nowhere near OPs price range. you'd be lucky to find a single cms65 monitor for $600.Machinesworking wrote:Focal CMS 65 is a real step up. it's at the top of your price range, but look around.

lolz, yeah, I thought the OP meant pair.
Re: Studio Monitors, <$600
i recently bought a pair of Adam F5.
love em. the forward facing port, the ribbon tweeter, and (of course) the flat response all work well in my space.
my old monitors were a pair of M Audio Bx8a. can't really compare them... except to say that the Adams sound much more flat and true...
the M Audio are better for playing music on... as in, to listen to. too much bass. they would be ideal for playing a house party. mixing... well, i'd much rather have the Adams.

If you've missed here is a comparison of HS80M with HS8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCiLSOZXaQo
HS8 sounds more KRKish - weaker midrange, slightly overhyped high range and and the lows that are somwhere there, but not exactly...
So all advantages of HS80M are gone...
HS8 is for somebody who likes shitty sound of KRK speakers and want them to look like real monitors.
Skål!

Every single pro review of these monitors proves the exact opposite of what you've just wrote, haha.Goddard wrote:If you've missed here is a comparison of HS80M with HS8

I have a pair of HS8's and they are superb and much better than my mates KRKs. The KRK are great for DJing with, but not production.
To the OP, please read some proper reviews and dont go by what the odd individual (like myself ) might say on here.
