Affordable high resolution displays are here. Mac has been retina for 1.5 years, high end PC:s are 2560 or 3200 horizontal pixels and now almost affordable 4K displays are here like the one below:

Retina is an Apple Buzzword. i use Airplay to mirror my iMac desktop to my Apple TV connected to my 47" Television via HDMI...
at that size, i can't imagine needing anything different if you really want to go there.
i use it for watching movies that aren't available on the Apple TV, not for production... but seriously... i don't really need to have a wall of Live. some really good productions have been made on 13" laptops.
it's pretty amusing looking at the demands of 2014 music making if you roll back just 5 years... let alone 10.
