Bitcoin

Post by beats me » Thu Feb 27, 2014 8:10 pm

I don’t get it literally or figuratively. Seems like a bunch of geeks trying to be clever with the monetary system and the only time it makes the news outside their geekdom is when some hacker games the system or wipes out a ton of fake money. And that seems to happen quite frequently.

Am I just being an old man about this shit?

I got some. I intend to sit on them until the exponential adoption curve levels out in 3 or four years when they will either be worth a fortune (five, six figures?) or sweet FA.

Only invest what you can afford to lose.

Do your homework, these are shark infested waters.

See how with only a couple of words different, it's just the same as regular money.

smells like pyramide fraud game where everybody ends up poor, and a few guys take all the money. dont trust it at all.

I pass their plant on the way to and from work everyday and second to only Apple if I had any kind of career drive here I would want to get a job there because I think they have a tangible future compared to most of the tech companies around here. Shortly before Telsa took the plant over they made Toyota cars there but they shut that bitch down putting thousands of "real Americans" out of work. :x

10 miles up the freeway from Tesla was Solyndra which became the poster boy for Obama's "reckless" investment in green companies that fail. My work commute is like the It's a Small World ride of 21st century tech. :x

The MtGox bitcoin exchange has filed for bankruptcy protection, reports say.

Reports suggested the site shut down after it discovered that an estimated 744,000 bitcoins - about $350m (£210m) - had been stolen due to a loophole in its security.

"There has been a ton of speculation as to what happened in the catastrophic failure of MtGox. The only thing we know for sure is that it somehow “lost” upwards of 750,000 of customer BTC, valued around $450 million. A number of theories have been circulating on the internet. Here I’m going to talk about the one that seems the most plausible to me. H/t to /u/PuffyHerb on Reddit for most of this.

The theory is essentially that the U.S. Government seized MtGox’s cold storage wallet and Karpeles can’t disclose that information due to a gag order."

It's planned for version 10 to help further develop their Live Pack store front. Ablecoins will sell for $1.50, thus giving you the illusion that their packs are cheaper than they are.
